The 2014 Japanese Grand Prix was Round 15 of the 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The event was held at Suzuka, Japan on Sunday, 5 October 2014. Nico Rosberg started on pole position for Mercedes and his team-mate Lewis Hamilton was the race winner.
On lap 43 of the race, in fading light, Jules Bianchi was critically injured when he lost control of his Marussia (#17) at the Dunlop Curve and crashed into a recovery vehicle which was recovering the stricken Sauber of Adrian Sutil, who had spun off on the previous lap. Tragically, Bianchi suffered severe head injuries in the accident and remained in a coma until his death on 17 July 2015.
