Innes Ireland was a British F1 driver who raced in the Formula 1 World Championship between 1959 and 1966. “One of Life’s Rich Characters”, Ireland won the 1961 United States Grand Prix for Lotus and by doing so recorded the very first Formula 1 victory for the iconic British marque and the first Grand Prix win for a Scotsman. He became President of the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) in 1992 but sadly died from cancer the following year.
