The 1999 British Grand Prix was Round 8 of the 1999 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The event was held at Silverstone, United Kingdom on Sunday, 11 July 1999. Mika Häkkinen started on pole position in the McLaren Mercedes and his team-mate David Coulthard was the race winner.
Michael Schumacher sustained a double fracture to his right leg when he crashed his Ferrari heavily at Stowe Corner on the opening lap, after suffering a brake failure. The accident effectively ended his attempt to win the championship in his fourth season at Ferrari and he would not race again until the Malaysian Grand Prix in October.
