Jacky Ickx

Jacky Ickx is a Belgian ex-F1 driver who raced in the Formula 1 World Championship between 1967 and 1979. He won 8 Grands Prix and claimed 13 pole positions during this time. He is a double winner of the the German Grand Prix and the Canadian Grand Prix. In 1969 and 1970 he finished runner-up in the Drivers World Championship. By winning the 1968 French Grand Prix, he became the first Belgian racing driver to win a Formula One Grand Prix. He is also famous for winning the Le Mans 24 Hours race 6 times.

During an interview with Beyond The Grid – The F1® Podcast that was released on 7 August 2019, Jacky Ickx talked about his relief at not winning the 1970 World Championship title following the death of Jochen Rindt at the 1970 Italian Grand Prix meeting. He also reminisced about his sadness after Jo Schlesser was killed at the the 1968 French Grand Prix, breaking his leg in a crash during practice for the 1968 Canadian Grand Prix, sustaining burns after colliding with Jackie Oliver’s BRM at the 1970 Spanish Grand Prix and on his one-off drive for McLaren at the 1973 German Grand Prix,
