The 1996 European Grand Prix was Round 4 of the 1996 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The event was held at the Nürburgring, Germany on Sunday, 28 April 1996. Damon Hill started on pole position in the Williams Renault and his team-mate Jacques Villeneuve was the race winner. Villeneuve’s maiden win was the first F1 victory achieved by a Canadian driver since his father Gilles won the 1981 Spanish Grand Prix.
