1989 French Grand Prix

The 1989 French Grand Prix was Round 7 of the 1989 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The event was held at Paul Ricard, Le Castellet, France on Sunday, 9 July 1989. Alain Prost started on pole position in the McLaren Honda and was the race winner.

The race was restarted after Brazilian driver Maurício Gugelmin crashed heavily on the run down to the first turn, landing upside down after launching his Leyton House March over Gerhard Berger and Thierry Boutsen. Remarkably, Gugelmin went on to set fastest lap of the race for the first and only time in his F1 career.
