The 1989 Japanese Grand Prix was Round 15 of the 1989 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The event was held at Suzuka, Japan on Sunday, 22 October 1989. Ayrton Senna started on pole position in the McLaren Honda and Alessandro Nannini was the race winner in the Benetton Ford. The result of this Grand Prix sealed the outcome of the 1989 Drivers World Championship and Alain Prost won the world title for the third time.
